Here is a report from a grower in DC on Sun, 13 Jun 1999.

We looked around the property to see which azaleas were in bloom as of June 12th. We are located about 40 miles due west of Washington, DC, near the base of Bull Run Mountain. We found almost 150 plants in bloom. The current drought is affecting the size and quantity of blossoms on the plants. We also found that many plants were not named correctly; they are in bloom, but the blooms don't match the characteristics for the varieties attached to the plants.

A significant number of the plants are Satsuki hybrids.

A few North Tisbury hybrids.

The Macrantha hybrids, orange, purple, and pink are in bloom.

Other varieties in bloom include - Brocade Pillow (just finished), Chanson, Cherokee Squaw, Dorothy Rees, Easter Morn, Fairmont, Fountain, Georgia Giant, Gwenda T37-4, Henlopen, J. T. Lovett, June Dawn, Juneglow, K-17-3 (Gartrell), Lady Edith, Louise Morrow, Merrymaker, Mrs. Emil Hager, Mrs. Villars, Nakahira Pink, Pearl Bradford, Phoebe Morrison, Pinco Pennington, Red Spider, Rosalie Nachman, Sagittarius, Sarabande, Sarah Wallace, Sir Robert, Stormcloud, Witch Doctor, and an unknown Gable.

A few more are in bud, so the above plants are not our final blossoms. However, we thought that providing this list as of the current date adds to the information base.
