Azalea Caterpillar Invasion/Decimation

Yesterday, I returned from a 3-week trip and found that a group of azaleas (Southern Indica Hybrids, planted last spring) have been almost completely defoliated by azalea caterpillars. I spent several hours removing & destroying disgusting clusters of caterpillars, & plan to confer with the county extension office on Monday re the advisability of treating with an insecticide.

My question is: Will these plants survive my coastal Carolina winter and eventually recover? I don't expect much (if any) flowering next spring, I'm merely wondering if my denuded plants will rebound, or if I should replace them and be more vigilant in the future . . .
