A VanVeens surprise
I was distraught over having to leave the garden of my old home -- the previous owner had planted a paradise of rhodies and woodland plants up the side of a slope in the Philadelphia suburbs. I'd been able to dig out some of the smaller plants to take with me to Baltimore, but I wasn't sure that I'd have the chance to root cuttings from the larger plants...
When I learned about Van Veen's cutting service, I was thrilled. Off went the UPS box, stuffed with cuttings [with made-up names, because I didn't have IDs for many of the larger specimens].
Then, just last weekend, as I was sorting through old documents in preparation for the house sale, I stumbled on a typed page, listing rhodies the previous owner was considering for the yard, back in 1971. And where was she ordering them _from_? Van Veens!
I had to call Kathy to let her know some of their babies were coming home for a fresh start in a new garden....
