Propogating/replanting ocotillo

My neighbor pulled out his Ocotillo and was kind enough to give it to me. It is quite large so I had to trim many of the top canes off. I would like to create a living fence out of these cuttings. Obviously they have no roots. Does anyone know how to do this? I know some cactus require that you let them scar over before propogating them. Do I let them sit a while or put growth hormone on the bottom and plant them as soon as possible?

Thank you,
