I've seen this vine-type flower growing in the Madera Canyon of Arizona. Anyone know what it is?

Vinca major, the Common Periwinkle. NOT related to the bedding plant vinca that looks like an impatiens. PerennialGroundcover, trailing plant. Somewhat drought-tolerant when established, takes a wide range of conditions in stride. Looks best in partial shade. There is also a smaller-flowered/leafed version (Vinca minor) and a beautiful variegated-leafed type, 'Vinca major 'Variegata'
