I have had this plant for about a year, year and a half. It has grown HUGE- as those of you that were here before remember the photo I posted when I bought it. It came in a 6" pot. I sure hope it blooms someday, it is supposed to be extremely fragrant and have gigantic (dinner plate size) flowers. I keep hoping and feeding it!

Take a look, if you want!

Dang! Does it get pretty much shade all the time? Good luck getting it to bloom. ;-)

There goes the house.... happy plant!

It is next to the pergola (? 2x2 roofed area that provides filtere light- look behind and to right) and on the west side of the house, but is pretty dappled shaded in the afternoon. It does get spots of direct sun off and on all afternoon, but it doesn't seem to mind. I was afraid it wasn't getting enough light, but the branches keep growing and it is a lovely dark green, so I suppose it is happy. I just want it to be happy enough to bloom!

Thanks for the comments
Susie

If you want your plant to bloom it will need some sun in the spring/summer months to set buds. (Dappled sun is probably best to avoid scorching of the leaves but it does take the heat - we had temperatures in the 40s (centigrade! not that silly fahrenheit) this summer and they coped well). It is flowering now in Sydney (late April or early autumn). They are stunning in bloom with flowers of an intense white.

The same goes for epiphyllums - they need winter sun to set buds for flowering in late spring. Here the flowering time is November.
Good luck.

I've had this plant for over a decade and it's one of the most robust and hearty plants known to me. It hasnt bloomed in about 9 years though. Mine does really well in full sunlight with frequent waterings.
