Putting pommegranate cuttings in the ground... too early?

I have some pomegranate cuttings that I've been keeping in water (indoors) and they are barely barely starting to have some root initials forming (white spots)...

some of them also have little buds.

I finally succeeded in removing the last pieces of roots from an african sumac I chopped down last year, and now I have a big hole there in my backyard (ok I have more than one big hole...but that's another story)

I'm anxious to fill in this hole so I was thinking maybe I could just put these cuttings in the ground and see if they survive. Would you take a chance? As far as I know, Pomegranates aren't all that cold sensitive.
