What DID survive our freeze

LOL, wow, such a mixed bag of results here with the cold temps recently.

Some things I thought would get hit, did not and others, did.

Covers helped in some cases, in others, didn't.

I did cover my cherry tomatoes in pots the first couple nights then decided to wheel them into the garage after the rain. They had some green marbles on them, hard as rocks and I just cannot give up on a lost cause - lol.

To my surprise they really thrived in the dark and unheated garage!!! There is some very small amount of light from glass bricks but minimal.

This plant was mislabeled at HD, supposed to be Sweet 100's but are much larger than those. After a stint in the garage, the plant is covered with ripening tomatoes; the photo I took this morning is just of one small area.

Seriously, I figured any and all tomatoes would be toast this round but obviously I was wrong!

Another shocker (in addition to the cherry tomatoes) were my 2 lavender star flower plants (Grewia occidentalis) They always and I mean ALWAYS get nailed by frosts or freezes and it is not pretty.

But they have always bounced back with time.

I just have given up on trying to cover as they are quite tall, over 8-9 feet.

So it's been several days now since the freeze and looky-looky, who seems to be just fine??? This particular hit of cold weather just was so different this time at my house...

A closer pic of a blossom on the Lavender Star Flower (Bush? Shrub? Vine? What is it officially?) I took this too this morning. I'm just dumbfounded these didn't have any damage this round when usually they are the first thing to get all dark and frostbitten.

Really great updates and pics, Kimmey, thanks for posting them. Very minimal damage for me, just a few of the many self sown nasturtiums and things that die back anyway (Merremia etc). Glad most of your plants look so good! I don't even try winter tomatoes, although I DO do autumn/spring ones. Congrats on yours! Keep the fun posts and comments coming, happy gardening!

I got out the christmas lights and protected my baby citrus in front and back, so there hasn't been any more frost. It's like when I get my car washedÃ¢ÂÂ¦..
