Herbs and Flood Irrigation?

Hello,

I have a large yard (over 8,000 sq ft)with flood irrigation and I would like to set up a nice garden.

I was wondering if anyone has had previous experience gardening with flood irrigation here in Arizona. I see alot of raised boxes, but I am determined to use the flood irrigation at ground level. I would like to have a pretty serious vegetable garden, and also grow herbs. Is this possible?

I have so many questions, I do not even know where to start. There will be a ton of debris from tree litter and some grass clippings, so composting will be definitely be used.

I'm fortunate to also have a variety of growing conditions, as there is a huge pecan tree that shades a large portion of the back yard. There are also large trees in the neighboring property that shield some of the sunlight in the late afternoon. In the winter from about Jan 1st to the middle of April the Pecan tree is bare, so the yard is completely sunny.

Thank you for any input!

Dan
