Tucson is a very sprawling city, and it can take an hour or more to get from one side to the other, so it's helpful to know what side of town your friends live on.

That said: probably the biggest nursery in town, which grows its own plants, is Mesquite Valley Growers. I have never been there because it's on the far east side of town and I am in the very far NW, but I've heard it's a great place. It probably has the best selection in town.

Two of my favorite nurseries on the west side of town are Silverbell Nursery on Silverbell Rd., and Rillito Nursery on N. La Cholla Blvd.

Mesquite Valley Growers is definitely the best Nursery in AZ. I frove down twice from Phoenix last year to pick up plants I couldn't find here. It is an awesome, monsterous place that is well laid out. I wish we had one as nice in Phoenix.

Magic Garden (http://www.magicgardennursery.com/) is also great. Tony is their registered horticulturalist. Tucson is much different than Phoenix in its microclimates. I bought all my citrus from them and Tony's advice for Tuscon is always spot on.
