I have called around and can't find any place selling Pine Needles/Pine Straw for mulching.

Anyone have a local source.

I live in Mesa.

Why do you need that particular kind of mulch?

RE: Where to buy Pine Needles/Pine Straw?

Well I want to use it as a mulch over the top of the composted leaf and manure mulch I usually use. Just a way to keep from splashing anything on the graft unions when I water. I also want to use it as a soil amendment for the blueberries I will be planting in a few weeks.

Others would say watering more than 1'-2' away from the base of the tree would prevent this problem but with containerized trees it would also mean there would be no water in the pots.lol

You might try cedar bark mulch. It's fibrous, and repels insects, at least for several months.

Kevin this may sound like a stupid question but can Cedar Bark Mulch cause Cedar Apple Rust on my Apple trees?

Thisisme, there are no stupid questions! Having said that, I feel a little stupid, 'cause I have no idea. I think that the alternate host for Cedar Apple Rust is Virginia Red Cedar (Juniperus virginiana), while most Cedar products here in the West are Western Red Cedar (Thuja plicata), a completely different tree. I should do further research on the subject. Will let you know!

I've gotten eucalyptus mulch from landscaping companies after a tree removal - no cost, whether it was my tree or not. They seemed happy to get rid of it. I suppose they'd feel the same after a pine. Otherwise take a trip up to Heber some weekend. Pine needles would be good for adding acid and organics to the soil.

aikanae Heber is about a three hour drive from here each way so thats out.
I will ask our gardener what he does with the pine needles he bags up from yards he clears that have pine trees.
