Mexican Cliff Palm in the low desert?

Has anyone in the Valley of the Sun--or Yuma, or Ajo--tried Mexican Cliff Palm (Brahea dulcis)? How did it work? Any info welcome.

I asked them once why they didn't have Washingtonia filifera on the "Plants and People" trail and was told, "We don't do palms, because they aren't desert plants." Go figure.
