Jade Question

I know that there are alot of Jade growers out there like myself, so I figured this would be a good place to ask a question. This is a jade i've growing for awhile now, it's had it's up's and down's adjusting from being indoors in MI, to moving in a U-Haul for a week with no light, to an apartment in Mesa, outside shriveling up in the sun, to it's current location in a South facing window.
It seems happy here and has been growing alot lately. It seems to be starting to lean, so I believe it needs a trim. Could anyone give a suggestion on where I should make the cut? I have my own idea, but I would like to see what other's think as well. Thanks in advance.

RE: Jade Question

A trim might be unnecessary. Just turn it so it is leaning away from the sun, and it will grow more on the new sunny side, evening out the lean. Once it's straight again, give it a quarter turn every time you water it to keep it straight.

RE: Jade Question

It looks really nice, especially after the ordeals you mentioned. Unless you're creating a bonsai or seeking a specific shape, I wouldn't trim it at all yet, I'd just keep it rotated to keep it balanced. Lookin' good if you ask me.

But it's your plant, so let us know what you do and how it works out. I've got a few happily growing indoors, though one was upside-down as a well-branched cutting for 10 days in a mailing box and it started growing upright from the upside down position so that now it's right side up it's a mess, LOL, but hopefully it'll be attractive some day.

Keep us posted and great pics as always.

RE: Jade Question

Grant,
Long time no talk, how grows it? I actually already made the cut a few days ago, so we will see how it goes. I do actually want to get a bonsai look from at least one of my Jades, so maybe this one will be the one.
Your upside down Jade sounds very interesting ;P I'm sure you will find a way to make it work though.
I posted this in a different thread, but in case you don't check it out, i'll post it here too since I know you are very knowledgeable.
"What kind of watering schedule does everyone use for their indoor Jades? I've been trying to let them dry out more this winter since I know a little more now.
The last time I went 3 weeks between watering, and that is in the South facing window. I do think that may have been a little too much, most of my Jade leaves were very soft and one or 2 fell off. Luckily they perked right up when I watered them. Should I move my watering up to once every 2 weeks in Winter, or does this sound ok?
In the Summer, I was thinking they will probobly need watering about once a week. Does this sound right? I am using a cacti/succulent mix with about 50% perlite, seems to drain very well. I want to make sure I don't lose anymore Jades this year..." ?

RE: Jade Question

Neat! Feel free to share some pics of the plant after your trim heals a bit and/or after you bonsai it. I think your new watering regime sounds great. I water mine (also in south-facing windows) twice a month in winter and once a week in summer, always making sure the soil is dry to the touch before watering. Let's also see what other folks say too.

Fun thread--keep us updated!
Take care,
Grant
