If it were me, I'd cut it off at the soil level, but leave the roots and the remaining bit of stalk intact in the soil. Just plant your summer crops around it. Come late summer, new shoots will come up and give you fab new broccoli plants.

Yep, I really have. Although, it was more by accident than design -- the broccoli was interplanted with some crops I didn't want to disturb, so I just whacked it off in the spring after it flowered. It started sprouting out again in about mid-August. I got much more vigorous plants than from the ones I newly planted, with very good, sweet flavor.

Interesting. I am waiting to collect seed from my broccoli plants, do you think this would still work after I collect the seed? I think I am supposed to let the seed pods all dry out before I harvest them.
