I have had them survive the winter ... they aren't any more productive, or less, than seedlings of that year.

I planted a small row of Okra a few years ago and have never planted again. I get hundreds of pods a year, usually about 10 a day through the summer. They can get quite invasive if you let the plants reseed themselves, but I love okra so I'm ok with that.

I tried seed that either didn't come up or got eaten by birds. I got transplants and they sat there and sulked and never grew or produced. I love okra so what to do? There's plenty of room and sun so you'd think they'd do well. Any secrets?

Tomatoifreak ... Lots of water and fertilizer when the weather is warmed up. Nights above 60 degrees are needed before it starts to really grow.

I grow Okra as well, and feed it blood/bone meal every two weeks, I also give it Fish emulsion opposite weeks when it is growing, before it's producing. I am in the low desert, hotter here, colder here, and with the food, it seems to love it. I would let the little one grow, just to see what it does. It made it thru the heat and cold, I'd want to see if that made it stronger. Good luck this season.

For ferts, do the okra want more nitrogen or more phosphorus, or straight across the board?

I have just given my okra lots of horse manure. Some fish emulsion. They grow like weeds, large trees by the end of the year. In heavy clay, because. Grow it in areas I can't grow anything else,I can't pull it up in the fall.
This year, I just pulled up a bunch of volunteers because they were in a spot I didn't want them. Probably 50 of the little guys! Which means I should get my seeds planted right away!
Heat, water and manure, it will grow fast!

I've never had seed not come up.
