Here in Camp Verde I prune my grapes as soon as they loose their leaves, that would be about Nov.
Mine are about 6yrs old with trunks about 5" in dia. and yours are still fairly small. I don't think if they were mine I would prune them now. Let them go until next fall and then do it. Then maybe just shape them so they will grow the way you want them too. They look pretty good. PS I use steer manurae turned in at the base and water, water, water until grape set then cut way back on the water.

Thanks Campy. I think I will just let them go this season and see how they go. I wonder how horse manure would work? I have an unlimited supply from our 3 horses....

Actually, your horse manure would be great, but I recommend composting it first to eliminate (or at least decrease!) the weed seeds from their forage as well as any wormers, etc.

Campy, obviously what you're doing works, I've always heard that steer manure was pretty heavy in salts. Are you getting it fresh?

I also agree with Campy that your vine looks great and another season of growing out would be good - especially if it got hit last year, you'll want as many leaves as possible to 're-charge' it. Strictly an under-educated guess!

Nope buy the cheap stuff from wallyworld 98 cents per bag and I use it on everything(grass, garden, roses, fruit trees etc.) I put the stuff on the grapes in Jan. by the time they leaf its just great dirt. Don't know about horse manure. I would try and use it, free is always good.
