| I have a plant that was given to me by my neighbor and neither of us knows what it is. It has been growing very well in the pot I put it in, has sprouted new columns as well. I would like to know what it is and also if it can be moved out of the pot and into the yard, and also can it be split?
Thanks, Chip |

| Hey, nice cactus. It's definitely a type of Cleistocactus. I have several species and really love them. Yours looks like C. strausii but if you do a search online or in your books you'll find tons of pics. There are a lot of species. It's best to not divide them, but if you reeeeeally want to share it, you can try to divide it or take a stem cutting, let it air dry for a few days and then plant it up. It's a very nice specimen. The common name is "snow pole" due to the white furry spines. Enjoy! |
