whats wrong with my tomato plants

I know theres a tomato forum but thought this forum would be better since I'm here in the Phoenix area. I was living in Wisconsin last year and my tomato plants produce beautifully but this year (and several years ago when I was living in Phoenix before the move the Wisconsin) my tomato plants look big and healthy and get blossoms but out of 6 plants I have just one small cluster of tomatoes about the size of marbles and thats it. Having transplanted them back in February, shouldnt I have at least a little more fruiting.
Thx

I wish someone would answer you because this is all I get from my tomatoes here. Would like to know what causes it so I could correct it and grow some toms.

No help, sorry.

Could you provide us with a lot more information than you already have? desert Di is right in that it could well be your variety you planted , but it could be a lot of things. You need to discusss your ferterlizer with us, your watering habits, when you planted ( what week) how close together and so on. If you tell us maybe we can help you get an idea. So no more blossoms just the one cluser of tomatoes?

More info is helpful, I planted 6 early girl plants in March, and my plants are full of blooms and noticed that I have some little tomatoes growing, my experience is that usually right about now, as it becomes hotter is when My tomatoes start really get going and will give fruit through the whole summer, I usually have to water everyday, and in the summer morning and evening. Good luck!

The varieties I planted was Big Boy Hybrid and Supersweet 100 VF Hybrid(cherry tomoto). I started them indoors around Christmas and transplanted them around Feb 15th. I water twice a week and use Miracle grow every 2 weeks. I've been getting alot of blossoms but until just recently no tomatoes starting. I've started to hand pollinate and I've noticed more tomatoes starting to fruit (although I dont know if its due to me hand pollinating or not)

Do you have flowers and no fruit or no flowers at all?
If it's the first it could be a number of things including lack of pollinators.
Do you have a lot of blooming plants and flowers around the garden to attract bees and other pollinators? If not try hand pollinating. this can be done by just ging the plants a gentle shake when you are out in the garden.

If it is the second, it could be the MG. Too much nitrogen causes more foiliage growth and less blossoms. Years ago I used to use the blue stuff religiously, and wonderd why my plants were big and bushy but never had any fruit. I knocked off the fert and soon had lots of blooms.

Your Cherry 100 should be producing a little by now. last year mine started slow, but by the end of May I was picking handfuls every day. I wish I planted some this year, but I didn't start any and none of the nurseries I went to had any. :(

Big Boy is a later maturing tom than the cherry, about a week or two behind. Patience grashopper. :-)

Right now in my garden, the Early Girl and Patio (early season) have blossoms and fruit, the Better Boy and Celebrity (mid season) have blossoms, and the Brandywine(late season) are just begining to get flower buds.

RE: whats wrong with my tomato plants

I have had tremendous success with tomatoes for both years that we have lived here including heirloom varietes. In fact two of my plants did not die back completely and had a real headstart in the spring.

Besides regular feedings of MiracleGro, I believe they need PLENTY of water. My husband ran drippers from our irrigation system to each of the plants. The fact that I continue to have thriving plants and am now producing artichokes makes me a firm believer that the water is a critical component, plus the fact that they are planted on the east side of the house so they get some relief from the heat.
