Melons are a "square mile" garden plant.

Pick a few of the best-looking seedlings, aim the tendrils towards the edge of the garden and let them crawl over the edge onto the lawn or dirt.

You can probably grow some things under the melons if they need shade.

Another possibility is to guide the melons onto a sturdy trellis ... look for square foot garden trellis on Google and you can find examples.
