sunflower help

Hey all...so I'm pretty new to gardening and also this is the first time I've dune anything in AZ...I had grown sunflowers and morning glory s in Colorado and since both are good in heat and poor soil, I started with those. I have the huge ones in the side of the house and a whole corner of one's that will grow around 6 feet
I have to water them at least twice a day, and today I came around 11 and they were pretty bad already and I even lost a few :( I say they are around 3 ft right now
I dint know what to do, I'm thinking maybe it's the soil not holding water but if so I don't know how to fix it
Please any advice is greatly appreciated
