They might require some shading, but they appear to be heat tolerant.

Most dyckias are fine in the Phoenix metro area. I've been growing the same ones for ten years now outside in the ground full time. I do give them shade (via a nearby lemon tree) from the hottest afternoon sun, but they thrive.
