Direct Sowing

I'm looking for some varieties of annual and perennial plants (preferably flowering) that will take this time of the year. I have one Zinnia type already a month or so and also some African Daisies.

Are any Zinnia breed seed okay to put out? What will establish in time to be okay for the summer? Cosmos? Anything else that can be recommended? I'm in Mesa btw.

More Info:

I'm also going to be ordering seeds to start indoors and set out in the fall. I'm interested in suggestions for that season as well if there are any other suggestions or must haves on your own list. I'm probably going to order from Summerhill Seeds.

I want to try Amaranth. . . as soon as I finish my raised beds which are in process. It is the edible kind and supposed to like heat, but this heat here is another thing. So has anyone tried it?

I bought the Amaranth too, as well as Malabar Spinach, New Zealand Spinach, Purslane, Red Aztec Spinach, Orach, and a couple of other heat tolerant salad greens. I hope that they taste good.
