I love asparagus!

Can it be grown in Phoenix? It seems it takes a few years so I'm wondering if it's possible to keep it alive for several years until it's harvestable?

I've heard of a few people being successful at it. Make sure you get an all-male hybrid. Otherwise, you'll have half females which are useless ferns.

I'm also interested in asparagus and apparently it does grow here. There are two planting calendars that I have, Urban Farm says set transplants Sept. through Nov. U of A Extension says Nov. through Feb.

I put the link to the Urban Farm calendar below. For the other, google "Maricopa planting calendar." I think the one from Urban Farm is more useful than the UofA one. I hope someone who is growing asparagus will tell us how it's done!

Thanks! I'm thinking about dedicating a whole bed to them since they seem to live a long time.

The Urban Farm has Phoenix specific info, and that page has a link to the UofA Master Gardener Manual for more general cultural information.
