Phoenix Plant ID: purple flowers, ground cover, shade

I planted this about 2 years ago in a shady area and it has done great. Unfortunately I don't know what it is. Is it a variety of verbena? I recently bought some more verbena but it has different leaves. It's in a shady area and gets regular water, and flowers year round.

Here is the verbena I recently planted. Its flowers are a little darker and the leaves are more broad.

Very pretty! That's a nice, big, beautiful clump of "moss verbena", Verbena tenuisecta (formerly V. pulchella). It looks really happy!

Your new verbenas are nice garden hybrid types which I'm sure will thrive for you as well. Here's a quickie link to moss verbena on the Pima County Cooperative Extension office.

Happy gardening!

That is lovely. Grant, thanks for the link, too. I love verbena, but I've never gotten it to thrive like that. Nick, is yours on drip or do you hand-water? I planted mine in a shady area with a soaker hose. Just didn't grow much and finally died. :(

Thanks, I'm glad to figure out what it is. Now if I could only remember where I bought it...

I have it on a dripper that's hooked to the yard sprinkler and it gets plenty of shade.
