Wow, I'm impressed. I have seen them in San Diego and LA sporadically and assumed that was marginally warm enough for them...but I too assumed the desert heat would obliterate them. I am shocked there is one in Scottsdale, and doing so well nonetheless. I would also be interested in knowing if anyone else is growing this tree sucessfully, and if so, what care they provide it...as I have never seen one in the desert.

I've read and heard of a few people trying them out here. They can definitely handle the heat, and the cold as well, but might need some protection in the first few winters.

I've also heard that they are a bit brittle and the winds we get in the spring time will most likely snap a few branches.

Thanks for looking/commenting, I appreciate it. This was a delightful surprise for sure. I really thought the foliage would be burned by our heat and low humidity. I may give them a try, depending on how much water they need.
