Just Bought a Mandevilla, Should I Take it Back?

Thought I had read that Mandevillas do well here but after purchasing the plant and bringing it home, I couldn't find much in the way of good reports or specifics about growing this plant in Phoenix. The vine thread only barely mentioned it and says only this:

"Mandevilla - best planted in a container that can move, very picky about exposure - will fry in too much sun, won't bloom in not enough."

I had planned to put it against the north face of a pillar on my east-facing patio, thinking that would be okay but now I'm wondering if it would be wiser just to take the thing back, especially now that the heat of summer is already upon us.

I have one that is in a 10 inch pot and gets sun from noon until about 5 and it has been good so far. This is the first year for it. If you want it in the ground, sink the pot as they like to be contained (slightly root bound) to bloom best.
