Help me choose a tree with power lines in mind

Awhile back I posted about a mulberry with mushrooms at the base.... well unfortunately the tree did end up dying. The arborist who came to (ultimately) take it down said that being topped over and over again for 30 years, like so many in this neighborhood are, is quite bad for the tree.

So I have been in analysis-paralysis for the last few weeks over what to plant on that side of the yard, now that the mulberry is gone. My problem is the power lines, about 30' away from the house. I'd like a tree that will provide some shade for the front of house and walkway, but I have to say I was traumatized at the 'tree massacre' inflicted to keep the mulberries away from the lines. It looked like a Pac Man!

This is for north side of the house in Wickenburg AZ, where it gets a little colder in the winter - 20's? Am open to any kind of tree and water usage but am hoping to be able to get some real shade - more than the ornamental trees provide.

Some things I have considered:

- Jacaranda (arborist says it needs warmer, will die back in a cold year)

- Honey locust

- Some kind of gum tree

- Red Pistache?

Backup ideas:

- Shoestring acacia

- Chitalpa

- Vitex

I'm going to try to get a few photos of the space I have available.
