You bring up a good point: There is never any info on tags about a plant's potential for harm to animals - or humans, for that matter. However, the list of toxic plants is much longer than your arm. If we took a poll, I think we'd find that many of us have plants that are on the 'toxic' list but we don't have problems because our pets never chew on the plants. Sagos seem to be a real danger to dogs and I wouldn't have one either, after reading this. Can you pot them up and use as specimens in a dog-free area?

We decided to have the landscaper dig two of them up and move them to the front yard (no doggie access)... although I am worried they will be in full sun until mid-day, so they may not do well there. The third one we gave back to the landscaper as we had no place else to put it. He may be able to use it on another job. Now we have 3 large holes to fill in our backyard and out of landscaping money for the moment... ah well. Need to come up with a non-toxic lush shrub to fill the gap.

If you like palms, try the Pygmy Date Palm. It's non toxic to dogs and cats. Maybe you could trade the sago?
