I nearly killed 2 bamboo last year planting in this heat, I screwed up by putting in the wrong dirt too.

You can always get some shade cloth for the first few weeks.

It's definitely better to plant during the more mild temperatures of autumn. You *can* do it now, but just make sure to keep it very well watered and make sure it's already fully acclimated to sun.

If you don't already posess the plant, I'd definitely wait until autumn.

Not that that stopped me from planting a hesperaloe yesterday, LOL.

I liked your blurb Grant, very helpful. Where can I get seeds for the ephemerals you wrote about and when should they be planted? All I really have back there are some volunteer poppies that I have encouraged over the years, but they were done weeks ago and their straw long since gathered up for the most part. I have left a little back there because the birds are still using it.

At least wait until the rainy season gets going.

Haname, thanks for taking a look. You can get most of those autumn-winter annuals at Baker Nursery and Berridge Nursery in Phoenix. I frequent both of them a LOT. Most seed catalogs carry them too if you search, but the local real nurseries should have the things I mentioned in the blog.

For plants like snapdragons, petunias, and "geraniums" you can buy plants and plant them in early autumn for blooms through early summer. For the seeds like desert bluebells, African daisies, etc I just sprinkle the seeds around the garden any time after Halloween. I think mid-November is ideal.
