Well, yeah it is a weed. It spreads from rhizomes (underground stems) so it can be very tough to get rid of. I had success pulling out every last stem I could find by hand during winter for a few years straight, then making sure no water got to the area.

oh yes, mexican primrose is a pain in the behind! i am still pulling those little buggers all the time. they look nice when flowering...in a pot, but don't let them get into the ground here. they spread like crazy.

So, jepthe7, what's your company and how much do you charge? Perhaps you could suggest a method for getting these plants to grow, as I like them and can never keep them alive.

Tell the HOA that it is Mexican Evening Primrose, not a weed species.

I bet it was on their approved species list.

To limit its spread, stop watering.

Pretty, delicate looking...so tough is stays bloomed and strong, grows over and beats everything else out! My error was to plant it among my other flowers, I pulled and yanked till I was blue in the face and it won! It even grew across the vicinity I planted like the wind blew seeds? Anyway it is best as a container plant or in a area to fill in with only this! It must be contained or a takeover is imminent! Linda H.
