That should have been agaves, sorry.

Hmmm....most agaves will shed their oldest leaves (especially small leaves formed when they were young), so that's not something to worry about TOO much on its own, however, 2-3 waterings a week sounds like a LOT to me so my guess is that they're getting over-watered. A good soak with a garden hose every week or 10 days should be plenty for those agaves. If they were mine, I'd cap off the drips and then not water them for two weeks, and then switch to hand watering every ten days or so.

Let's see what the other folks say, but my guess is that they're getting cranky from too much water. I grow a lot of agaves and most get water every 7-10 days in summer and maybe once a month in winter.

I agree with Grant, death by water. ;-) I rarely water my agave plants.

They're on my irrigation drippers and get water 2-3 times a week in the summer
That's too little water, given too often. You need to give them thorough soakings at long intervals.

If they are on a drip line that goes just to the agaves, change the timing so you are giving them about 10 gallons per watering, and watering every two weeks. Stop watering when the weather cools off, and start again in late April,

If they share a line with plants that need more water, Grant's suggestion is great: hand water every two weeks until cool weather.
