What do you plan to grow/

I already have a few things growing. I wondered if some days i could leave the blinds closed on the really hot days if the plants have one of those bulbs above them.

Go to a hydroponic store, get a few cheap ($20) T5 florescent lights. Get a 6500K (daylight) and a 3000K "red" light. They can be daisy-chained together. I use a few in my mini-greenhouse that is under my porch outside.

I know you can buy those bulbs. I'm just wondering if the ones I already have that are like the picture I linked are the same as sunlight or not.

No, you aren't going to get the intensity with a CFL to do daylight sun. The T5's are what you need. There are CFL's that you can use for grow lights, but they are huge and need a larger socket/ballast to screw into.

Strange...the seedlings growing under this one little CFL bulb like I posted a link to above are growing better than the light from the south-facing window. They are growing faster, straighter, and are a brighter green colour now.
