I have a caged garden 34' X 38' X 7' with 50% shade cloth top and sides in Sun City West,AZ

I planted Colby raspberries 3 years ago, last year they did poorly. My wife suggested I water them more, she was right! Anyway last fall I cut 98% to the ground, increased my watering and fertilized. There was no stopping them this year, they grew put on flowers and developed fruit.

That's where my happy story ends as very few berries plumped- out and do not have a very raspberry taste. By plumped-out I mean filled out, when you pick them most fall apart. Many of them just dried-up. Gurney's said they were OK in Zone 9, but I'm not so sure?

Any and all suggestions as to what I 'm doing wrong will be greatly appreciated.
