Seems no one, including me, is growing big pumpkins. I can't seem to grow a small one. Or a watermelon. :(

I have watermelon growing I picked a couple yellow flesh so far that were so so, and I have black diamond that are close to maturity, last year seemed better though I grew crimson sweet that did very well. The pumpkins are doing pretty well about a month in, I did just have to deal with an infestation of whiteflies and aphids or spidermites couldn't tell, they were small but covered the entire underside of a good amount of the plants, I sprayed with a dishwashing soap and water mix and looks like its starting to do the trick, I will do it again in a couple days. Kind of surprised that no one has grown large pumpkins, or at least shared their failed attempts.

I just don't think this is the environment for big pumpkins. If they did do well here, I think we'd have pumpkin contests. Hallowe'en pumpkins seem to do quite well, but they're no giants.

I am not really talking the big pumpkins, like Atlantic Giant or really even Big Max they seem like they would take far to much water and we have very little rain to supplement waterings the giants can put on 60 to 100 pounds a day at their peak growing. I was more talking Jack o' Lantern, Howden, Con. Field, I have seen a few small farms out here growing them but I was wondering if any home gardeners got any to full size. I am trying and will post if I succeed or not I am taking pictures weekly to track their progress.
