Ideal timing is Oct 1 through Nov 1, potentially okay through Dec 15th. The reference I use is the Urban Farm planting calendar. I often have the same problem only in reverse....garlic takes so long to mature, 5 to 7 months, I want the bed before it's ready to harvest. I'll plant a smaller crop this year to alleviate that issue. You may have to sacrifice some okra - or create another bed for the garlic.

I'm planning to put the garlic cloves in between other plants. Any reason that would not be OK?
