Isn't it lovely? I am *SO* geeked about the cooler weather. I took today out of my routine to get my planters planted - I got three new pots for my porch, I sealed them with Thompson's water seal, am elevating them with small bricks and lining the sun exposed sides with some sheet styrofoam. Amazing how much the initial out-lay costs, but it will be my one water intensive planting area.

Please e-mail me about the Permaculture meeting - it's one of those things I always want to go to, but if I have someone else that is expecting me, I'm much more likely to actually show up!

The Permaculture meeting pagancat is talking about is something I mentioned in another thread. I'll repost here since more folks will likely read the new Garden Chat thread (great idea pc, it's getting to that time of year).

Someone on the Valley Permaculture board posted that she and her hubby will host a 'garden tour' on Friday the 28th, 6 to 8:30pm, in hopes of getting some interest from like-minded folks on the west side. If you are not a member of VPA just email me and I'll send you contact info for the event. Would love to find a group in my neck of the woods to hang out with and talk shop.

PC, I know you're way up north and there are some localized groups within the Permaculture Alliance. Lots of info here and if you click on 'groups', you'll see there are a few.

This is a link to the Urban Farm. Greg Petersen has been around for a long time, promoting gardening in the city. There are several upcoming events, one on Friday about growing fruit trees in the desert. Each year they take orders for trees that will do well here. I think their delivery is in January. Oh yeah, Greg's is the calendar so many of us use.

Urban Farm has branched off into Root Phoenix, it seems. There are classes there, too. I could be persuaded to meet up with someone for a class. ;o)

*And* the VPA is also selling fruit/nut/etc. trees and vines off of their website. http://www.phoenixpermaculture.org/page/vpa-fruit-tree-program (and they're taking Paypal!)

I have a spot where I dump a gallon or two each day (cleaning out troughs) so I have stuck a few Daylily plants there. I know there's a guy who does a lot of DL growing, but I got a feeling it's a little too labor intensive for me - anyone have any luck with them? I know I can't water them constantly or they'll rot, but I don't know how they do with our heat.
