Mulch for citrus

What is your choice for mulch for citrus? I put down some steer manure for my 1 1/2 yr old lemon, navel trees on the advice of a gardener friend, however I was told by others that I should only use steer / chicken manure during the colder months. I got what looks to be salt burn causing leaf drop from the steer manure.

I add my mulch 3 times a year; valentine's day, labor & memorial day. I also foliar feed with liquid seaweed, fish emulsion and a splash of vinegar about 2 times a month.

What is your favorite organic mulch for citrus tree? What do you use during the hotter months / colder months?

Thanks!
