NW Phoenix area vegetable gardening now questions

Hi all. We just moved to the Surprise area from NE WA. I'd like to get some vegetables going that we can harvest until mid-March when we trek north again. From what I've read on the forum, it sounds like containers are the way to go. I also have a small enclosed area with a 4X6 bed. I neglected to bring my seed stash.
- Is there a good local ag store with inexpensive seeds now or should I mail order?
- I started some lettuce today, all I could find was green leaf, so I'd like more variety. Also, will lettuce grow now or are the days getting too short?
- Any recommendations on veggies. We enjoy squash, eggplant, peppers, tomatoes - pretty much everything except okra.
