I had a container garden last year and it went well until early July-ish when it just became too hot.

This year I'm planning on trying a raised bed garden (two 4x4' beds)

I'd like to plant carrots, green beans, tomatoes, bell pepper, and basil.

Would those 2 beds be large enough for the above plants?

When would be the best time to plant the seeds?

Are seeds from Home Depot good/fresh or should I buy from another source?

Should I plant other pest-repelling plants/veggies in/around the beds? (and which ones specifically?)

I read about using concrete blocks for the bed, but wonder if those would make the bed too warm in the summer? Should I stick with a cedar/wood bed?

Any other tips/tricks or book/website recommendations?

Thank you!
