Any one have a trick for growing large/ jumbo jalepanos? I was in Frys the other day an saw the biggestest japs I have ever seen. Is this due to great growing conditions or is it from a variety of jalepanos that are large?

I don't have trick but I do have an observation. My plants produced small jalapeños for the first two years. I thought it was just a genetic variation. Then in the third year they started growing large peppers just like you see in the stores. I have no idea why other than the age of the plants. I'm not saying thats why they started producing larger fruit because I can't be sure. It could just be a coincidence.

You might have something there thisisme. I bought some seeds called Biker Billy. They did not get as large as promised the first year but the third year produced some significantly large jalepeno's. The 3 or 4 bushes I had have died out. I may try these again.

I have two varieties of jalapenos, one is a normal small variety, and the other is called mammoth. The scovilles seem to be the same just by taste, but the mammoths definately look like the ones in the store, about twice as big as my other jalapenos.

Would growing the plants in pots limit the size of the pepper?
