Where to buy Indian rosewood, sissoo

Poor little Casa Grande only has Lowe's and Home Depot. Does anyone know of a nursery in the Chandler area (south Phoenix) where I can buy a decent size plant for a good price?

hi clysta, i bought mine at summerwinds nursery on arizona ave (state route 87) just north of elliot rd. the nice thing about going there is that tree land nursery is just a couple buildings to the north of summerwinds. check them both out. i think the prices were very similar. i had a coupon to use at summerwinds and that is why i bought there instead. |

I know this thread is a little old.. :) but I bought mine at A&P Nursery at 101 and Baseline. It was kinda a hike from Maricopa (& thus CG), but they were CHEAP, and in great shape.

yes, a&p is a good place to go as well. one of my favorite nurseries, friendly and helpful there. but i think rachelr meant to say that it is off of baseline rd and lindsay in gilbert (just west of lindsay).

That's too funny... they must have a couple locations. The one I've gone to is really right next to 101. Across the street from a tile place and... some bar.. Hollywood something? It's a small place, but they were (like kazooie said) friendly and helpful. :)

I am also planning on purchasing 2 sisoos for my backyard. One of the nurseries I went to yesterday (Jan 24, 2009) had 15 gallon sisoos each $45 if you pick up and $75 if the nursery picks it up and plants it in your backyard. On top of this ofcourse, they have delivery cost depending on your address from the nursery location. If you are within 5-10 mile radius trip cost is $25. This nursery also has 35 gallon sissoos going around $375 or so (I forget the specific price). I will try to post about bigger sissoo prices after I revise the pricing sheet. The nursery I am talking about is at I-17 & Jomax intersection. A young man named Paul owns the nursery with his brother. I found Paul very knowledgeable about trees/plants.

I've discovered that I have to go to local nurseries to get anything out of the ordinary. Lowe's and Home Depot don't carry Sissoo. One of the nurseries delivered and planted, but the prices were about the same as above. I went to The Avocado in Coolidge, they always have what I am looking for. I decided to get 5 gallon plants and then hired a yard man to help me plant them. Turned out to be half the price. One is doing very well after July planting, the other two aren't growing as fast. During the planting process I discovered that all three trees, as well as other plants put in by the tract landscaper had grubs in the soil. I have been treating for them but have lost a sage and an AZ yellow bells to them. BE SURE TO CHECK THE ROOT BALL FOR THESE PESTS BEFORE YOU PLANTS ANYTHING. |

Desert Horizon Nursery is an excellent place to buy sissoo trees.

I just bought mine today at Lowe's in Buckeye. I purchased a very tall and healthy looking 15G Sissoo. It was $29.98. Maybe they only carry them at certain times of the year...?

Check Craig's List. There is a wholesale nursery liquidating in East Mesa and selling them (five gallon) for $3 each. If you buy 10 or more - $2.50 each.
Here is a link that might be useful: Craig's List ad
