Ok I saw some at a nursery and I have to own one. I need to know does every one plant theirs in the ground or do you keep it on a patio? Any other information to help me not send it to the grave would be appreciated.

Mine is planted with LOTS of water, NO afternoon sun. I had one in a pot and it didn't do well at all.

Thanks for the info. I will just have to say lots of prayers!
I noticed yours is near your pond and I do not have one of those.(Yet!) Do you give it lots of water even this time of year?

I think that's what I need to do with mine, take it out of the pot and put it in the ground. I bet it would be much happier :)

My Angel Trumpet, Halo Peach from Park Seeds is in a 16x16 by 12 deep pot. It is now 8 ft. tall and blooming but also suffering from frost damage. This plant has been in a pot since I bought it from Park about 3 years ago. It gets about a half day sun and lots of water and food. I wish I had room to put it in the ground but the pot has done fine for me tho it really needs to be repotted. Not looking forward to that!

wow... that's beautiful... I was going to get some seedlings and was wondering what the best planting conditions are (soil, light, you already answered the water question ) and I was wondering if you guys have any tips for cuttings in case I ever want to try from those... thanks in advance... I wish my garden looked like GT and Easys... *sigh* eventually, eventually...

Cuttings are easy. If you take about a 6-8" piece, strip the bottom leaves off and put it in a container of water, up 1/2 or 3/4 of the way, it will soon send out nubbins, then full fledged roots. At that point you can plant it. You can also put the cuttings directly into a pot and keep them very wet and they do well also. I prefer the water method, then I don't have to remember to keep something wet!!! LOL!

RE: Angel Trumpet rooting

I had read this a while back on the Brugmansia forum and wanted to pull it over here. This person has some great ideas that really seem to work. Take a peek and see what you learn!

RE: Angel Trumpet

When I lived in Phx. I kept mine in the ground on the east side of the house (morning sun afternoon shade). The sun as you know is much more intense in the desert areas and since brugmansia have large leaves they tend lose alot of moisture through them. Pots were hard to keep up with because it gets so hot and since they grow fast they will need to be watered very frequently. In my experience brugs will flower much better in the ground. They may die back a little due to frost but will always come back in zones 8 or higher. Fall, Winter, and spring were the times my brugs flowered best in Phx. If you put them in the ground mix 50% rich organic compost with 50% regular soil. Water in the evening or mornings (soaker hoses or drip hoses on a timer work great) You will just need to watch it to see how much and when to water it. Sometimes they will wilt down in the afternoon but perk right up when watered in the evening. One thing I have learned about them is that they really need alot of fertilizer, more than most plants in order to form Y's on the branches and to flower. Visit the brug forum and read the FAQ for more info. but beware you just may become addicted lol. GL
