This tree is frost tender, especially when young. Be sure to protect it on nights when temps are predicted to be in the 20's. Because of their tropical nature, you probably won't see any growth until temperatures warm up in the spring.

Orchid trees (except for our native Bauhinia lunarioidies) are very sensitive to salts in our water and soil. When you water, try to soak the soil down to 2 or 3 feet. Depending on your drip system this may take several hours, or you could just let a hose trickle slowly for 5 or 6 hours.

I have that sight already on my favorites but, never thought they would have orchid tree info. Iam very weary of overwatering in winter. I will slow deep water to minimize salt build up when soil gets dry. Orchid trees are not the easiest tree to grow in my experience, so any info helps.

hmmm, mine are not sensitive to the frost we have. They did will with no protection 4 years ago when they were only 2 years old and we had 10 degrees one night and 12 then next two nights. I would not worry about frost protection.
Remember they are dormant right now for winter, and won't start growing until it warms up quite a lot.
A good mulch to enrich the soil will give the tree everything it needs in the way of fertilizer, nothing else is needed.
Water deep as aztreelvr said. That's good advice for any tree in the desert.
