| Two-tone Oldhamii culms. The larger culms are 3+ inches thick, and the discolouration is only on the older culms.

| Nice camouflage. Your Texan 'roos will hop right on by and never spot it. Hard to believe but another kangaroo was found here this week. One got hit by a truck and killed. No one knows where it came from but apparently had been surviving the cold here so far this winter. |

KT,Was that a result of the 20 something temps we had last week? and how about the tops, any damage? one of my oldhamii's suffered some leaf burn, and a few other plants had frost damage to new growth. I know you can't disclose the location of your secret bamboo test facility but can you tell me what city might be near? grasshopper never tell. |

| Thuja, yes I heard about that, it made the news all of the way down here. The kangaroo was about the size of our field rats, and was hit by a truck near Mauston, WI. The man then had it stuffed. I could have sent him a rat for free, and saved him the trouble of a dent in his truck. Grasshopper, to become a Master, one must learn from a Master, but I'll try to help you anyway. Those discolourations are only on last years culms, not this years. The temps got down only to 30F last Winter, but I was told that it was from the cold. They are more yellow then they were at the beginning of the year. Anyway, it did get down into the mid-20's and was below freezing for about 23 hours during a 3 day period. This years culms should show the same effects, or even worse, from the colder weather. Leaf burn was minimal and the tops appear to have survived. Some GOOD advice is to water well, very well, before extreme cold weather. I used to not water much, if at all, in the Wintertime, but have found that it helps very much to keep the soil moist. I had all bamboos watered well except for my Al Karr, which lost most of it's leaves to the cold. I should have watered it. I have bamboo test facilities in four different locations, and am fixing to move my main operation to a new undisclosed location in the near future. The Oldhamii mentioned above is north of Glidden, or NW of Columbus. Remember, Grasshopper...Water Well. Kt |
