Nice... how would they do in NC ya think?

RE: Bambusa multiplex 'Silverstripe' Culms

Mine has never lost it's leaves to frost here, yet, so it seems to be one of the hardier Bambusas. If you keep it in a protected area, it might do great.

How cold does it get there?

Lowest has been 18 but only for a few hours... we had a weird front come through. mid 20s but burns off soon after the suns up. No more than 8 hours in those lows. I'd be interested in a division if/when you have one :-)

My Vitatta dies to the ground every winter and sprouts again once it warms up... hoping it will get stronger and tolerate better as it matures. Ever noticed that habit before? A plant getting more climatized as it ages?

 o
RE: Bambusa multiplex 'Silverstripe' Culms

Yes, they definitely get cold hardier with age. Could be due to the size(culm thickness) and better established root/rhizome system.

RE: Bambusa multiplex 'Silverstripe' Culms

Heh-heh,...no, I'm just waiting to get a living division. I've had little luck with dividing this one, but you're on my list.

I'm just teasing with ya... are they really that tough to divide? Guess that explains why so few have them up for offer too huh?
CJ

Anything else needing a new home by chance...drop me a line :-) always looking to adopt a new member.
Take care

RE: Bambusa multiplex 'Silverstripe' Culms

Not tougher than any other clumper of that size, but mine is in a tight area and hard to get to. The divisions I took in the past always died. I have four potted up now, but so far, no signs of any growth.

Keeping my fingers crossed...

 o
RE: Bambusa multiplex 'Silverstripe' Culms

They're still green, and starting to put on some limbs and leaves. Still waiting for some more growth and maybe a shoot or two.

Better to ship in Spring or Fall?

RE: Bambusa multiplex 'Silverstripe' Culms

Sorry, and thanks, but I've already got some Chungii. I heard that Roy in Florida has some Chungii that grows three inches thick! Huge!

 o
RE: Bambusa multiplex 'Silverstripe' Culms

Kt... hows the silverstripe looking? Still showing progress I hope :-)

My Chungii contact fell through...moved out of FL and sold off an acre or so worth of various Boo... drop me a line at clutedad@nc.rr.com as I am not getting notice to replies on here.
Blessings
