I think the bamboo you are talking about, and from what I see in the pictures, you have Fargesia dracocephala 'Rufa' aka Green Panda. It is a clumping bamboo. It grows to about ten feet in height and is very cold hardy. Kt |

| I took a look at the ad and it appears to be one of the Fargesias, a clumping bamboo. I saw no reference in the ad to "Giant Panda bamboo," and, even if I had, I wouldn't know what to tell you since there are about 25 species of bamboo that pandas eat. Sellers sometimes make up fanciful names for bamboo to make it sound more exotic. Since many of these names are non-standard, it's not a good idea to rely on them as a means of identifying a bamboo. If you are new to bamboo and want to make sure of what you are buying, there are a number of reliable bamboo sellers/nurseries in WA State that can identify by scientific name what they are selling you. If you want to get some sources, click on "My page" and use the email link to contact me, and to tell me what city you live in/near. I live in the Greater Seattle area and can give you some names of reliable sellers in the Puget Sound area. |
