When to divide and replant clumpers?

I have several clumping varieties that I would like to get a root division off of. Also have some large clumps of what I believe to be B. Multiplex that I would like to dig completly and divide. When is the best time of the year to do this. I live in zone 9.

I've divided clumpers at all times of the year with success, but I would recommend NOT dividing while the plant is shooting, unless your division has several healthy culms.

I personally prefer the Spring or Fall.
