Winter damage of Bambusa testilis vs. B. emiensis 'viridiflavus'

So far this winter with lows of 20F, these two bamboos have shown fairly comparable leaf hardiness (about 30% damage), but the big difference has been in the hardiness of this summer's new culms. B. emiensis shoots about 1 to 2 months earlier than textilis, giving it more time to get its new shoots hardened off. So they are undamaged, whereas the 12' high shoots of textilis have had their tops frozen off and broke apart at the nodes, so they are only 4' high now.
