It's supposed to be hardy to -5 (zone 7). I think I planted a culm of this in 2002, and it sure doesn't spread very much! We had about 3 winters that went below zero, which killed everything above ground, except them small branches that were under snow cover, but when we have winters that don't go below zero it gets a little bigger. This was taken in October, 2008, and these are small guineas in the front of the bamboo.
