If 10F-20F is the normal minimum for you then your USDA Zone is 8 and you can grow all kinds of bamboos.

Bamboo is not as hardy when in a pot outside. I had an immature pot of Phyllostachys aureosulcata die a few years back that was out on my deck and temps never got below -5*f (it's listed @ -20*f). Please keep this in mind when making selections. Most of the hardiness listings you see also don't account for wind and sun when it is cold. Outside of some of the fargesias that might not like hot summers, you might want to look into Semiarundinaria fastuosa that does well in pots. Plant selection also depends on what you want to do with the culms - just about any will work for tomato stakes, but if you want to build with them, it might be hard to get something sizable in a pot.
